Welcome to my blog

Welcome to Fresh on Folksy, a place for me to shout about all the wonderful and inspirational handmade goods from the creative makers selling on Folksy. There is no favouritism or any kick backs, it's simply things I find on Folksy that I like and would part money with. Some will be new goods and some will be older but all will have some element of creative genius.

Here's to all those makers, to all those who strive to create wondrous things from nothing, here's to all those who bring a little whimsy into our lives, they should be celebrated and commended.

I myself, peddle my wares on Folksy, you can find me lurking over at Ed's Place come over and say hello if you get a moment.

So as not to confuse anyone or mislead I would like to point out that I do not work for Folksy or have any affiliation with Folksy. I do what I do simply to promote the Folksy sellers and by definition Folksy itself. The views expressed on this blog are mine and mine alone.

Brass Band

It was a tough call to choose between the different sets of Russian dolls in Allistair's shop. This one just edged it  as I like the banjo playing goat and the rather stuffy looking conductor. I know it's a fair wedge of cash to call these your own but I like them enough to feature them here in hope that some generous soul will see what I see in them, heirlooms.

Retro teapot and cup drawing with fabric

Another rather splendid original piece of artwork, signed and dated for £7.50! Sometimes I get to thinking that these pieces of original work are being gifted to you lot out there, you lucky souls. I really like the combination here and as you regular readers will know, I am a bit of a geometric pattern freak.

My Castle

Much as I am more of a rural monkey, liking and enjoying the space that lifestyle affords I do have a soft spot for the brutally urban landscape. Shoot me down in flames but I do like some of the 60's high rise structures. I like this simple line sketch of a one such building, a lot. I shows a real confidence from the artist in their own ability, top work.

Owl Lino Print Card

Simplicity always works in my opinion and I do love this card. There's an element of ninja owl but I like that too. As the print is signed too it would make a nice small framed print. £2.50 for a signed original print, come on peeps, that's got to be worth a punt, surely.

Kettle On Feet Up - Framed Collage Picture

All that talk of tea earlier has made me a tad thirsty. I love the sentiment of this piece, it reminds me of lazy Sundays and getting in from a hard days graft and requiring a nice cup of tea and a good sit. You can't beat a good sit in my opinion. This original piece comes ready framed so all you have to do is unwrap and hang, delightful!

Hen House papercut - Print

So much patience, so much skill, I'm in awe of the paper cuts and prints coming out of Suzy Taylor's studio. This Giclee print demonstrates quite clearly that some hens live in a nicer home than me. I love the style of this piece and the overall composition, it's hard to believe these are actually hand cut. Top work Suzy.

Giclee Peacock print

I promise you I'm not obsessed by peacocks this morning but I saw this Giclee print and couldn't resist. I'm not sure why but it reminds me a little of the dancers you might find at the Moulin Rouge in Paris, maybe it's their wonderfully proud looking crests. It's a delicious illustration, I love the colour and I would be happy to hang it on my wall without hesitation.

Screen Printed A6 Notebook

Another post another peacock only this one is slightly more regal and a little Chinese in style. This is very elegant printed notebook which anyone would be proud to pull out and start scribble on (the pages not the front!)

Peacock Lino Print

It seems when you're doing a certain craft or technique yourself you can't help but notice other people's work using the same technique. There's something I really like about this peacock print, there's delicacy to it and I like the layout too, top work Jools.

home sweet bird home

A slightly wintery scene this one but I love it. Love the colour palette and the general style of the piece, would make a nice addition to anyone's wall.

We can't all be Stars

Grab yourself a bargain, this is a print being sold as a misprint by Bird House Press. You would be hard pressed to see the misprint if you weren't looking for it and I actually think it makes the print unique. £5 off the price of the print, that's got be worth a punt surely.

Twenty-one Blocks - large print

Another day another print, although this one is digital. This A3 print wouldn't go amiss being hung in an art gallery, the colours work beautifully together and I do have a penchant for anything geometric. One of my fave Folksy sellers is Francesca Iannaccone for sure.

Chickens

It's all about the quality of the line. This particularly delightful image could translate well from a drawing into stitch or wirework but the simplicity of it is it's beauty.

Peas in a Pod paper cut

One of a series of four lovely paper cut pictures. I can see all four sitting nicely on the wall in a row, like a gaggle(?) of colourful soldiers standing to attention waiting to be adored.

Glasgow District Subway

Who would have thought that a public transport system would provide the basis for such a wonderful piece of illustration. I've seen the London tube map as art but not Glasgow, to be honest I didn't even know Glasgow had an underground system. I looks pretty iconic to me, bravo Breuk.

Comedy Fun Glasses (Vinyl Decals)

I think you could have quite a bit of fun with these as a kid. Put them on a mirror or on the patio doors and turn yourself into a mini Tom Cruise. Come to think of it, Tom Cruise is quite mini anyway so I would imagine these are life size. Great fun idea though, I like.

Eastbourne Pier - Original Embroidered Textile Art Canvas

I think this piece by Gillian Bates is simply stunning. It's hard enough to have a beautifully loose style in traditional sketch (pen or pencil) but to achieve it in stitch takes some doing. It does make me wonder whether this was straight off the bat or there were several hundred attempts before this beauty arrived. No matter, the result is exquisite IMO.
